Year 5 had some special native Australian animals visit from Animals Annonymous.
It was an amazing hands on experience for students as part of their Animal Adaptations Science unit. The Tawny Frogmouth Bird and the leaf-tailed gecko are masters of camouflage. Crocodiles have three sets of eyelids with one set working as underwater goggles.
Mrs Mixon and Mr Scharenberg discussed with students how these animals adapt to their environment and the impact if an invasive species was introduced. This links to their exploration of how invasive species of plants and animals have affected our Australian ecosystem and what can be done to reduce the impact.
One highlight for this Animal Incursion was a squirrel glider leaping off Mr Scharenberg and soaring around the classroom. Students were also impressed by Mrs Mixon's courage as she let a carpet python wrap and twist itself around her arm.
