Outside School Hours Language

Introduction

We are delighted to announce the affiliation with the Department of Education’s School of Languages to offer Italian and Japanese taught by qualified language teachers outside school hours to support our whole school language opportunity of Auslan in 2025.

Languages

There will be Italian and Japanese classes each Wednesday afternoon after school and once all enrolments are in, the number of classes of each language will be confirmed. Students from Reception to Year 6 are eligible to participate in this exciting program.

Time & Location

Commencing Wednesday 5 February 2025 from 3:30 to 5:00pm in the Year 5/6 Neighbourhood.

Resources

All students will have access to a device. This is an electronic course with optional revision for homework.

Logistics

After the school bell at 3:05pm, language students can gather in the Plaza and eat an afternoon snack. At 3:25pm they are to be upstairs in the Year 5/6 Neighbourhood ready to commence at 3:30pm.

The teacher will offer a 10-minute break about 4:15pm though students will stay in the Neighbourhood space. At the end of class the teachers will escort their class downstairs to the Plaza for pick up at 5pm. There may be students from other local schools attending the lessons too.

Cost

$150 per student per annum with this amount paid directly to the School of Languages then it will be credited off your Term One school fees. We will receive notification of your payment, so there is no need to do anything else once you have paid.

How to Enrol

Go to the School of Languages website: schooloflanguages.sa.edu.au or call 8301 4800 for assistance.

We appreciate it is a busy time of year, though families are requested to enrol by Friday 29 November so classes can be finalised and communicated to families.

FAQ

Can my child just do half the session each week until the first break at 4:15pm? No, we recommend completing the full class each week to keep up with the content.

Can my child just do a term at a time as we will have sporting commitments in other terms? It is possible to apply for extended leave if more than three weeks in Terms 1, 2 and 3 are going to be missed.  This option is not available in Term 4.  The cost, absorbed by the school, remains the same at $150 per student per annum.
