This week, we welcome our new Leadership Team member – Mrs Elisa Lawrie. This role will support the Leadership Team in daily organisation.
We also welcome Harrison and his family to the Year 3 Neighbourhood and our school community.
Mini Vinnies
On Friday night last week, our Mini Vinnies spent the evening at school working collaboratively with students from Sacred Heart College Marist Solidarity Team. Following on from community presentations, our learners enjoyed an evening of activities, games and sausages, whilst engaging in deep learning about the plight of people who may be struggling with food or accommodation living in Adelaide.
We are grateful for our connection with Sacred Heart College, as it will provide stepping stones for our learners to continue their great, selfless work into their middle school years.
First Holy Communion
This weekend, some of our learners will be celebrating their First Holy Communion. Masses will take place at St Joseph’s Church, Brighton and we warmly invite our community to attend one of these celebrations, either 6 pm Saturday night, or 10 am Sunday morning. We wish these learners all the best for their celebrations.
The results of the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) have been released, and families of learners in Years 3 and Year 5 received their child’s results last week.
NAPLAN is a nationwide assessment conducted annually for learners in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9. It evaluates learners' skills in key areas of literacy and numeracy, providing valuable information about their strengths and areas for improvement. This year, proficiency standards have replaced the 10 reporting bands and national minimum standard. The proficiency standards are exceeding, strong, developing and needs additional support.
We are currently analysing our NAPLAN results to identify trends, tailor our teaching approaches and support each learner’s growth and progress effectively. Overall, our school achieved the proficiency standard of ‘strong’ in all Year 3 and Year 5 NAPLAN assessments which include reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy.
We thank all Educators who have been involved in our learner’s educational journey.
Wednesday 25th July was OSHC Educators Day and last week we celebrated and thanked our amazing OSHC staff for their important work in our community. Their contribution to the lives of children and families at McAuley Community School, through the provision of care and education before and after school and during the holidays, is significant. Our OSHC staff are dedicated and passionate Educators and are deeply valued for all they do. To honour and celebrate our OSHC staff, our learners, educators, and families expressed their gratitude with special cards and treats.

As a result of feedback from our learners, we have now implemented music to be played to signify times to come in to learning, to go out to play and to finish the school day. We trialed this last term and it was a great success.
